I think this is called payback

This is what they were talking about when they said, "Just wait til YOU have a daughter." Its called getting my comeuppance. And Im in T-R-O-U-B-L-E
I have to start by telling you a little bit about me as a child. I opened my mouth and said stuff.... Stuff that probably made my parents want to run and hide, or pretend they didnt know whos kid I was. Not that it has really stopped, but I do feel like I have a better handle on my filter. Although, I do have some "open mouth, shove foot in up to the knee so I never speak again." moments. And now that I have this blog, some of those moments will be broadcast to the world, HELLO INTERNET. Note: theres a very interesting post about poop coming up that Im sure will offend at least one of you. But I digress..

One of the most famous stories illustrating this is quite famous in my family. It goes a little something like this

Me to the Lady at the fair with a million kids and a soda pop: Can I have a drink of your pop?

Lady: I think you better ask your Mom.

Me: Mom, can I have a drink of that ladys pop?

Mom in a whisper tone: No honey, you dont know what germs they might have.

Me to the lady with a million kids and a soda pop:  My Mom says I cant have a drink of your pop because your kids are dirty, but thats Ok, I can still play with them.

THATS THE KIND OF THING IM TALKING ABOUT! And it happened to me in Walmart yesterday.

While passing thru the Dairy section we came across a woman, her husband, and their 20 something son. She was standing with the dairy case open yelling at both her husband and son about lord knows what. Then they started in on her. It went back and forth while I tried to quickly get to the sugar free creamer. They yelled at her, she yelled at them. And then the moment happened.

Addison said to me in her best outside voice, "Ooh Mommy, shes ANGRY (adorable scowl on her face) Thats just terrible (shakes her head)."  Oh pleasepleaseplease let them be screaming at each other to loud to have heard that. Nope, they all stopped and looked. And looked. I beat feet and headed for the Cereal.
Addison practicing open mouth, insert foot age 5 months

I am just certain that its going to get even more interesting around here.

This kids mouth is gonna write checks my butt cant cash. Wish me luck, I may have to find a Walmart with a slightly less volatile crowd.

Love,
J

Cranky, party of 3

We are all wearing our cranky pants today in this house. Addison went to bed late and wound up then woke up early. Delaney is still working on a tooth. Still. There is no sight of that darn chomper yet but she is miserable. Then again, maybe she isnt teething at all, she is just like her Mother with a flair for the dramatic. Even so, the littleist crankpants had a rough day:

I know, I know, I posted a picture of my baby while getting a shot. Your probably amazed that I was able to take the picture while holding her down with one hand and holding the mother of the year award in the other. I just can.

Oh, and then we all went to Walmart. Yep, that was a great idea.

If anyone needs me I'll be sulking in the corner.

One day older

Well, shes teething.
Poor little thing.

As a Mama, its the worst feeling to have a baby that is hurting, scared, uncomfortable, upset. I know that its just teething, everybody goes thru it and nobody dies from it but still. I hate to see my kids anything but happy. We have found a few things that relieve her sore gums. Frozen grapes in this contraption seem to help:

Its just a reminder to me that she is growing, changing. Thats difficult for me too. Im equal parts proud, impressed and bummed. The days go by so fast and each day I think Im going to wake up and shes going to have a little tooth. Its just a pearly reminder that she wont stay like this forever, we have to enjoy and capture these moments. Im excited for her to grow up and be a smart, strong, independent girl, but I adore these little moments when she is young. I guess that is why I started this blog. I could never express to her when she is older all the minute details of her days, those things that are so precious to me. So, Im going to take some pictures, write some words and know that in the years to come we can look back at this and smile.

Here are a few pictures of our week alone together while Addi was away

My precious Laney,
What a sweet little bug you are. You have found your little voice and use it a lot! Especially in the morning. You are an earlybird and usually wake up around 5:30 or 6. I can hear you talking and singing. I give you a few minutes of alone time, you like to have a conversation with your blanket. Then, we get up together and go downstairs to start the day. I got out some new toys for you yesterday, they make music and light up, your two favorite things in a toy. I try to get you to have tummy time but as soon as I put you on your belly, you flip right back over to your back. You have figured out how to scoot on your back and you like to do it so much Im worried you might get a carpet burn on the back of your head. Tomorrow we have your 6 month Doctor visit. I cant wait to see how much you weigh now.

Love, Mama

P.S. Addison comes home today and I am so excited to get my arms around that kid! She has really enjoyed her time in Eads, and Im told she doesnt want to come home. Tough beans kid, today your Mine!

My dog is better than your dog

We are a family of 5. Seth, Jami, Addison, Delaney and Gage. In October of 2009, a friend posted pictures of some rescue dogs on her facebook page. As soon as I saw this picture, I said to myself, "Theres our Dog."

I quickly called my friend to find out how to get him home. After a phone interview for the rescue and a virtual home tour to qualify for our adoption, I remembered I probably needed to talk to Seth about it. I was just so convinced that he was to be our dog I got a bit ahead of myself. Seths reaction was, "Well, we will think about it." Im quite impulsive when it comes to things like this, Seth is much more calculated and thoughtful. "We will think about it" usually ends up in a "no", but I would not be dissuaded and Seth agreed to go meet Gage the next day. On our way Seth made sure to prepare me, we were just going down to meet him. Do.not.get.my.hopes.up!

Half hour later.......
He fit in right away
And when we welcomed little Laney to the family, Gage was pleased. They have become great friends and she just loves to look at him and laugh!

We adopted Gage from a wonderful rescue you can find Here

We love you Gager!!

Best of luck Cluck Cluck

I got this picture this morning from my Grandma Billie, Addison left yesterday for a visit in my hometown. She was so excited to get to go see the baby chickens at Chicken Papas house. After naptime she will go into town for a visit with my Mom, Glen and Grandma Alice.

A Monkey goes to the Zoo

Yesterday we got to meet up with my Aunts and Cousins at the Denver Zoo. I was beyond excited for this trip, I just knew that Addison was really going to love it. The movie Madagascar has been playing at our house and she was excited to see real life animals! After a bit of car trouble early in the morning, we were finally on our way. I left Addison in the hands of my family and went to pay for my entrance. When I got back, my kid looked like this:

Aunt Jerri had surprised her with these adorable accessories! This is going to be a good day.

Remember when I said that Addison LOVES to climb? Well, if you were hoping to see pictures of animals in this post, my apologies. The only animal besides an elephant I captured on film is the Monkey we brought with us. She climbed on everything.

Mostly she wanted to climb on her own but sometimes you just need a bit of help

Delaney got in  on the climbing action too.

But Mostly she just enjoyed the scenery

There wasnt just climbing, there was twirling

swinging

Drumming

and ICE CREAM

We had a lovely picnic in a park, the weather was perfect for our Zoo day. It started out a bit chilly but we were happy with the cloud cover.

Holly found this sign as we were about to leave, clearly Addison cant read.

And before I get any emails or text messages about the safety of my kid, please remember that there were 6 adults looking after her at all times. I even came prepared with a kid leash.

And her outfit worked perfectly

Thanks for an awesome day Ladies! We had a day full of excitement as you can probably tell:

Deja Vu

Just recently Delaney has started on solid foods. Yay Delaney! So far our favorites are prunes, pears and bananna. It took us a while to get here, she was not having it for a while and completely rejects rice cereal. I can tell you that she is not a big fan of the spoon in general so we have given her a bananna, slice of pear, or steamed baby carrot to gum and she loves it! I remember when Addi started, she loved all things vegetable! Peas and Carrots were early favorites

Peas
Delaney is the opposite, if I get peas anywhere near her face she  clamps her lips shut and throws her head back. But Prunes, now thats the ticket
Mmmmmm prunes
Now bring on the disgusting diapers.....

Today we are off to meet some of our favorite ladies at the Zoo! Addison is dying to see a Hippa-pop-a-rus!
